Used equipment buying

I have spent the last several weeks driving the big truck to various farms in eastern and northern NC as well as northern VA to buy used equipment from farmers either getting out of tobacco farming or changing their farming practices, obsoleting their equipment.  There is no way I could afford to get into strawberries if I had to buy all new equipment.  What I can't buy used I will probably fabricate myself.

Picked up a 4 bottom plow with a removable 4th bottom and a 300 gallon trailer sprayer from a retired teacher/corn farmer.  I'll have to rebuild all the plumbing on the sprayer to make it work on strawberries.

Bought 1500 feet of 4 inch aluminum irrigation pipe from a tobacco farmer above Durham.

Bought 1500 feet of 4 inch pipe, a bunch of risers and sprinkler heads, and a 4 inch PTO pump on wheels from a vegetable farmer near Leesburg, VA.  Got a great deal on all this equipment; definitely worth the 400 mile drive to get it.

I will build my own water wheel planter from scratch and hire out the bedlaying and fumigation work.
