Strawberry Expo

Sprayed 1 pt. of Poast to knock back the ryegrass which has gotten huge.

Yesterday I injected 1/2 pt. of Ridomil Gold on the recommendation of a Clemson agent at the strawberry expo who warned me of an outbreak of anthracnose crown rot in NC plant material.   I haven't seen any sign of this  in my field, though I probably wouldn't know it if I saw it, but all my plants look healthy.

Last week the whole family attended the strawberry expo.  There were a few other kids there but none as wild as our 3.  The expo was fantastic and a great learning opportunity.  Lara and I tried to split up attending as much as we could, but the kids meant that we couldn't see all that we wanted.  They pretty much parked themselves by the Hillside Orchards display with the cider slushy samples.  I think our kids consumed a gallon of frozen cider!   We will seriously consider offering this alongside the strawberry picking as it was the best slushy I've ever had.

Everyone at the expo, from vendors to speakers to other attendees, were wonderful about offering advice and experience.  It's been a great pleasure to interact with so many people in the business and hear them share such valuable information.

NCSA put on a super show that is a must-see for new strawberry farmers.
